National financial planning organisation, Financial Services Partners, and author and performance coach, Andrew May, have entered into an agreement to write a book to help Australians cope with redundancy.

The book ‘Between jobs – A redundancy survival guide' is set to be released in retail and online bookstores in early July.

For people in a redundancy situation, there is an abundance of information available on practical skills, like writing resumes. A Google search on this topic totals 16,700,000 results. Similarly, there are 3,500,000 records for preparing for a job interview. But, how do you take care of yourself while you are unemployed so you are at your best to write the resume and show up, and then perform well at the interview? This book fills that void!

The book is written for people who find themselves between jobs as well as the spouses, partners and friends of people who find themselves between jobs. The book can also be used by responsible organisations who retrench staff, to help their staff cope with what is often a life-changing situation. The book will also be supported by an interactive website at http://www.betweenjobs.com.au

“Being retrenched is a horrible experience for all concerned” says Geoff Rimmer, CEO of Financial Services Partners. “Often our financial advisers are the first line of defence for people who find themselves between jobs, so it makes sense to us that we step up and offer a bit more than financial advice to our clients at this time. Financial stress can compound the issues around redundancy – but there is a lot more to it.”

The book covers a range of issues from managing stress, relationships, building a financial battle plan, goal setting and accessing support through tough times. The book also illustrates that redundancy can actually be a blessing in disguise.

“It surprised us that there is nothing available like this book – hence our advisers are delighted we can take a leadership position in providing financial advice and help people realise a brighter future” says Geoff.

Andrew May, author and performance coach has seen first hand the impact redundancy can have on families.

“Being an unemployed can be a terrifying thought, especially when you have a family and mortgage repayments you're responsible for. It is my genuine hope that the book will provide immediate and practical assistance at a time where there seems to be none. The book also looks at the longer term, and will hopefully provide the reader with some nurturing and encouragement to move forward in their lives” says Andrew.
